9th Annual Walk/Run for Celiac Disease a Success! PDF Print E-mail

The 9th Annual Walk Run for Celiac Disease was a huge success on May 15th, 2010.  Held again at Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria, Minnesota an estimated 1,300 people came to participate in the walk and/or run as well as learn more about celiac disease and the gluten free diet.

The event is a fundraiser for the University of Maryland Baltimore's Center for Celiac Research, but one of the other big goals of this event is to build a sense of community among people who have celiac disease -- plus educate them about the latest and greatest in gluten-free foods.  And that we did!  We had 23 vendors there this year, plus donations from dozens of other food companies at our indoor food fair.  One participant commented on our Facebook page, "Awesome walk again this year! My son completely filled up on samples and had a blast!"

Run/Walk Fundraising PDF Print E-mail

The Annual Walk/Run for Celiac Disease that is held in Minnesota, is unique in that we don't require a registration fee for walk participants and people who won't be going on either the walk or the run. Organizers of this event believe it is extremely important that families be able to attend the event, learn more about the gluten-free lifestyle, and  raise awareness for this cause without breaking the bank in registration fees.

In exchange we ask that you do your best in gathering donations for our fundraiser.  Money raised goes to the University of Maryland Baltimore's Center for Celiac Research.  This organization has made great strides in celiac research within the last 10 years, including conducting a prevalence study that discovered 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease.  Before this study, doctors estimated celiac struck 1 in approximately 5,000!
